Are there ever times when you feel so low that you just don’t know what to do, then all of a sudden you hear a song on the radio that suddenly speaks to you? It’s words resonate so hard that you start and to breath again can’t help but feel that everything is going to be okay. That is how I feel about today’s Music Monday song, Angel by Aerosmith.
Getting a Bit Personal
I won’t get into too many details, but there was a low point in my life where I felt that all was lost. That I just didn’t know how I could pick up and move on from everything that had happened. I was feeling lost, and asked God for something, anything to let me know that things were going to be okay. Then it happened. I heard Joe Perry’s guitar, followed by the recognizable voice of Steven Tyler, and instantly I was drawn in.
But it was the words that got me.
“You’re the reason I live.
Your the reason I die.
Your the reason I give
When I break down and cry.”
Those words made me think that perhaps there was someone out there who would understand. Someone who would know what it was like to have the same thoughts and feelings that I did. That left a warm feeling in my heart, and one that makes me pause and think everything will be fine every time I hear the song come on.
Because of this, I knew I had to use this song in my book. It appears more than once, and gives Justin a feeling of hope. The same hope I had.
A Little Different
For those that don’t know, Aerosmith wasn’t all ballads, despite what the movie Armageddon would have us believe. In fact, Angel wasn’t liked by Steven Tyler at all (at least according to this site), since he thought it would ruin their image (the playful hard rockers from above.) It didn’t, and was one of their biggest hits, paving the way for others, such I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing and Amazing.
